Amy Coney Barret Is No RBG
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a Jewish woman and feminist icon from Brooklyn, New York. Ginsburg was appointed by former president Bill Clinton in 1993 and throughout her career made it a priority to be an advocate for women’s rights in the supreme court. Some of Ginsburg’s accomplishments include passing the affordable care act, she protected women’s rights over their bodies, and helped give same-sex couples the right to marry. It is obvious that the new supreme court justice appointed by Donald Trump is no RBG. Amy Coney Barrett is a Catholic woman from New Orleans, she is outdated, religiously biased, and will dishonor the legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Barrett is far right-leaning as seen in cases she’s touched on dealing with immigration, abortion, discrimination, and gun laws. She potentially puts the right to abortion at risk that was established in the supreme court case Roe v. Wade. Barrett and Trump want to overturn the affordable care act causing low-income families and people with pre-existing conditions to ripped of affordable health care. Judge Barrett dissented from a ruling that banned people with felonies from possessing firearms. Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s opinion on the second amendment is that it is “outdated’’ and we no longer need armed citizens. RBG is known for being a forward thinker. Ginsburg dissented against the court decision made in the Ledbetter v. Goodyear & rubber company saying it overlooked pay discrimination. Barrett has voted to dismantle protections on civil rights for example she defended a separate but equal policy that segregated employees at an auto shop by race, questioned the court’s responsibility to defend LGBTQ equality, and the ruling that legalized gay marriage. Amy coney Barrett’s stances will take us backward she is no replacement for the groundbreaking justice, RBG. She fought tirelessly for gender equality and was a role model for every woman. This legacy will be undone by Trump’s nominee. Judge Barett wants to dismantle the ACA that could limit access to birth control because of her religious morals. Barett is not a feminist icon, she is not a feminist at all. “Ruth Bader Ginsburg is going to be replaced by a woman who walked through every door Ginsburg opened for her just so she can use her position to shut them all for others behind her”.
