    Young Arts 2024

It’s that time of year again! The National Young Arts awards have been released, and Carver has again seen great success with four victors in various categories this year. Congratulations to Chiara Adjoh-Davoh, Jada McAliley, Jenna Nesky, and Akili Williams for their high achievement in the Film, Photography, Poetry, and Non-fiction categories respectively. You can see all the winners across all categories at this page on the Young Arts site.

As with all Young Arts work, there is the possibility that the work submitted as part of the competition application. Young Arts publishes a book of distinguished work every year. This book will be produced after National Young Arts Week, January 7-13, 2024, so look out for Carver work on the national stage this January. This will hopefully go alongside a presentation of distinguished work from our winners across the school in the various primes which they are a part of. Make sure to attend the upcoming Literary Coffeehouses, and this year’s Senior Visual Showcase, to view the work from these amazing artists!

For all those who submitted but who did not win, don’t take it too harshly. As Ms. Mlinek says, “Winning [art competitions] is an objective sort of thing. But not winning is always subjective.” The competition this year saw a very high number of submissions, totaling over 7000 across the country; but, the total number of winners selected this year was relatively less than previous years, so the selection committees were clearly highly particular.

For Carver history, this is a notable year as it marks the second year in a row of recent trends being broken. Last year, Sofia Bryter (DIM) was chosen as a Young Artist with Distinction, the first student in recent years and of the DIM prime to achieve such a high bar of success. This year, Literary bucked its trend of 10 years without selection to having two different students win in two different categories. So, look out for next year, and make sure to submit! 2025 is looking up for Carver students on the national art competition stage!
